Mr. Durney is the former General Counsel of the Shawnee Group Companies where he was responsible for all legal affairs of a resort and real estate development company and its affiliates with 1,100 employees and projects in Pennsylvania, Florida and South Carolina. Prior to his in-house position, Mr. Durney’s practice was concentrated in commercial litigation with the Allentown firm Tallman Hudders & Sorrentino, now Norris McLaughlin & Marcus. He began his career as a commercial litigator with Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti, a large firm in New Jersey.
Mr. Durney received his law degree from Emory University School of Law where he achieved Order of the Coif distinction and was Articles Editor for the Emory Law Journal. Mr. Durney was also awarded American Jurisprudence Awards in Business Associations, Property and Legal Writing and Advocacy. His article “Fair or Foul? The Commissioner and Major League Baseball’s Disciplinary Process” was published in the Emory Law Journal in the Spring of 1992.
Mr. Durney is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colgate University, where he was also captain of the baseball team. While at Colgate, Mr. Durney had a dual concentration in Political Science and Religion, graduating Magna Cum Laude with Honors Distinction in each discipline. Mr. Durney was also an Alumni Memorial Scholar, George W. Cobb Fellow, Charles A. Dana Scholar and a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. He also served as Treasurer of the Student Association.
Mr. Durney is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
A graduate of East Stroudsburg Area High School, Mr. Durney has retained strong ties to the community. He and his wife, Jackie, live in Stroudsburg with their two children.
Mr. Worthington earned his law degree from Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law and his MBA from Lehigh University. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Mr. Worthington is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Hillary started her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the former President Judge, Ronald E. Vican at the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas and, upon his retirement, continued her judicial clerkship with the Honorable David J. Williamson. In 2012 Hillary accepted a temporary position as an Assistant District Attorney in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and left in 2013 to join the firm of Royle & Durney (now known as Durney &Worthington).
Since joining the firm of Durney & Worthington Hillary has had extensive experience in criminal defense work having served as conflict counsel for the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas from 2013-2017 and has litigated a variety of cases from DUI to Attempted Homicide.
Along with criminal defense, Hillary has been serving as a Guardian Ad Litem for children in dependency proceedings since 2013 and a Custody Conciliator for the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas since 2015. As a result, Hillary routinely represents clients in dependency and orphans court matters.
